Kiyoshi sits nervously on the edge of his seat. He can feel himself trembling and he hopes the shaking doesn't attract anyone's attention. He's standing in his kitchen, staring at the wall with the lightbulb above it. The lightbulb is buzzing. If he closes his eyes, he can picture the sunbeams dancing across the ceiling and reflecting off the lightbulb. The sound of someone knocking on his door makes Kiyoshi jump.

"Coming!" he calls loudly before heading toward the door. He opens it to reveal Ryouta, standing in the hallway wearing one of his father's old jackets.

Ryouta smiles at him shyly. Kiyoshi notices the cut on the side of his cheek and the bruises around his neck. His heart sinks when he sees how beaten up he is. Kiyoshi feels his stomach drop.

"Hi," Kiyoshi whispers. "Come in."

They both stand in silence for a few moments, neither of them knowing what to say. Finally, Ryouta breaks the silence.

"I'm sorry."

Kiyoshi raises an eyebrow at him, confused by what he's apologizing for.

"I don't understand what you're apologizing for," he answers. "There's nothing to apologize for."

"But I hurt you."

"Well yeah, but-"

"Please don't get mad."

"What do you mean? Why would I get mad? You didn't hurt me."
